How we work.

We're different.

Simple Machines is a data-focused product and engineering consultancy that works and delivers in a materially different way.

We understand every client and project is different. We determine an engagement style that fits. We resource the project with deeply experienced cross-functional teams. And we make your time to value our priority.

We do have some unifying principles that underpin our thinking, our processes and our business relationships. The Simple Way™. Over time we've found this increases prospects for success and delivers the most impact and value to our clients.

We're diamond-shaped.

Most consulting companies are pyramids, with a few seniors managing many more mid-level consultants, junior engineers and fresh graduates – whereby the less experienced at the bottom are often doing most of the work.

To ensure the most cost-effective speed to value, we're the exact opposite. We have a heavyweight team on top - directors working alongside senior engineers and consultants - supported by the best up and coming industry talent.

Simple Machines simply brings more experience and thought leadership to every engagement. Our structure enables us to move further, faster - optimising our clients' investment while ensuring a high-quality outcome, sooner.

We understand what matters.

We know that delivering technology on its own doesn't mean success. Success comes from meeting business objectives. Technology is one part of the overall outcome.

Many of our engagements are highly complex, organisation-wide projects that traverse technical, business and regulatory teams – with lots of moving parts to keep aligned. So, our team also includes management consultants, product managers, QA engineers, UX designers, and delivery managers.

Leverage from the get-go.

Archimedes famously said: “Give me a lever long enough and a fulcrumbig enough and I'll move the world". We bring leverage to everyengagement - the benefits of deep domain expertise, a track record ofsuccessful delivery, proven intellectual property and robust accelerators.

Not only does this upfront leverage get projects off to a running start, but the overall risk of delivery is significantly reduced.

We focus on proving value upfront.

In developing The Simple Way™ we have learnt that there are 3 key phases to success.

1. Conceptual Model Discovery - Clearly defining a problem and outcome, too many projects fail because the problem and business outcome are not well understood. Breaking a problem down into simple elements that define the business value is essential.

2. Accelerating Time to Value - Proving a solution the simplest way possible. We build, test and learn to iteratively refine the problem and business outcome, which then allows us to be intentional about how to scale the solution.

3. Scale – Once the problems and objectives are truly understood and the solutions are proven, then the technology, people and processes can be scaled in a way that optimises budget, timings and resources.

Our people

“Simple Machines are force multipliers — and that’s exactly what we aim to be. Our work starts from first principles, not assumptions. Simplicity isn’t minimalism for its own sake. It’s pragmatism, rigour, clarity, and impact. That’s how we deliver the extraordinary.”

I've tried countless products in the past, but none of them even come close to the quality of this one. The attention to detail and craftsmanship is truly impressive. From the materials used to the design, it's evident that a lot of thought and care went into creating it. It's definitely worth every penny!

The Simple Way™ is our way.

Over the past decade we’ve developed our own unifying philosophy. We call this The Simple Way™. We use it to guide each project using First Principles Thinking — keeping the end goal in mind, always simplifying and improving the quality of what’s delivered.

Every successful project begins with a clear understanding of its true purpose. The stated goal is often just the surface—interrogating the deeper drivers ensures alignment with business needs and maximises impact.

Success is not just about delivering a project; it is about delivering measurable business impact. Defining clear objectives, metrics that deliver impact, and timelines from the outset ensures alignment across all stakeholders and creates a shared understanding of what success looks like.

A well-defined conceptual model is the foundation of a successful project. The most effective systems are built with cohesion and clarity, guided by a unified vision. Establishing a strong, shared conceptual model distils complexity into a clear framework that aligns all stakeholders. This prevents fragmentation, avoids misalignment, and ensures that the final solution is intuitive, scalable, and consistent in execution.

Complexity adds risk, slows progress, and dilutes effectiveness. Lean teams, sharp decision-making, and focused execution eliminate unnecessary overhead and ensure resources are allocated where they have the most impact.

The success of a project depends on who is involved and when. Every phase requires the right mix of expertise—no more, no less. Unnecessary resource bloat adds overhead and complexity, while bringing in each team member at the right moment ensures velocity and quality.

Technology exists to solve problems, not to be built for its own sake. We leverage internal accelerators and platforms where available and employ AI when it provides a multiplying advantage. Custom development is used only when it delivers a genuine advantage.

Our work.
